WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Veteran Outreach, Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed by two Iraq Veterans to provide mental health and other counseling services free-of-charge to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans and their families. With your assistance we can and will make this the finest organization possible.
As you know, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is by far the most serious mental health issue facing many of our Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans upon returning home. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has proven to be woefully unprepared for the severity and volume of Veterans returning with PTSD, and the effects this has had upon themselves and their families. Additionally, the VA does not provide services for spouses and children of these Veterans. As Iraq Veterans ourselves, Aaron Scott and I, Bradley Morris, have been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and have sought treatment through civilian and government avenues. We have seen first hand the difference in the level and availability of care between these two. Given our experiences, and those of our fellow Veterans, we have been spurred into service once again.
We have filed for and are awaiting determination from the Internal Revenue Service for designation as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Veteran Outreach is in the process of setting up our operational and support structures with the goal of beginning services on February 1, 2008. We know it is much to ask, but we are seeking clinicians willing to offer as much pro-bono time as they are able to. We are in need of clinicians to conduct individual and group sessions, marriage, relationship, child, adolescent, and family counseling. Our long term goal includes large scale fundraising and grant writing campaigns that should allow us to eventually contract with and reimburse you for your time. There is also legislation before Congress that, if passed, may provide the opportunity for us to receive government contracts to do the same.
Veteran Outreach has an additional need for a Clinical Director to serve on our board and assist the organization in its endeavors. We will rely heavily upon the expertise of the Clinical Director to structure and tailor the counseling program to best achieve our common goals. This position is of extreme importance to our cause and in need of someone eager to make a significant impact.
Should you be interested in assisting our efforts in any way, please contact us as soon as possible via phone or email. Feel free to pass this letter along to anyone you feel may be interested in knowing about or supporting Veteran Outreach. And, as you begin to encounter more Veterans and families impacted by these wars, please do not hesitate to refer them to us. There is not doubt that together we will make a difference in the life of a Veteran and their family.
